Real Estate Market Update
The August sales and listing pattern followed what can only be described as typical. Listing inventory dipped slightly, sales were sluggish, days on market lengthen and sale prices stagnant. Many buyers were on the sidelines enjoying summer or holding to see what the Bank of Canada would do with the September interest rate announcement. Sellers tend to do the same, enjoy August without the stress of having their home available to view or on holidays with plans to make a move in the fall. In early September, the real estate market is showing signs of recovery, with an increase in both listings and buyer activity. More properties are coming onto the market, and there is a noticeable uptick in potential buyers exploring new opportunities. This boost suggests a return of confidence and activity in the housing sector, indicating a revitalization as we move into the fall season.
Latest Squamish News
Approval has been granted for a new development in Squamish that will consist of 1,215 homes protected by a debris flow mitigation structure that would be among the largest debris flow barriers of its type in the world. The Cheekeye River Development, along with existing neighbourhoods and assets including the Waiwakum 14 Reserve, the Brackendale neighbourhood, two schools, Squamish’s airport, and Highway 99 will be protected by this new debris flow barrier, once built. Project approvals were granted by District of Squamish Council in July, and construction of the barrier is now underway with site clearing and preparation.
